Great cultural experiences in Falun

The distinctive red colour of Sweden’s cottages and farmhouses is colloquially known as Faluröd (Falu Red) and obviously it comes from Falun. Falun is Dalarna’s capital. One of the main attractions is Falun Copper Mine; with a museum, particularly charming surroundings and mining sightseeing tours, it has hijacked a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list.  Carl Larsson’s artist home, Sundborn, is located near the mine. As a painter, he found inspiration in folk art and the Dalarna landscape. His wife Karin should not be forgotten; she is considered the world’s first interior designer, and thus Sundborn is great for anyone with an interest in Carl Larsson and Swedish design

Sparkling outdoor attractions

Dalarna has thousands of lakes, and therefore millions of places to go for a swim. If you’re after high adrenaline, then Säfsen, Idre Fjäll and Sälen are places for mountain biking, rafting, fishing and kayaking. If you‘re looking for amusement parks, try Orsa Bear Park, Santa Land and Leksand Summer Land, all children’s dreams in one place.

Ornate traditions live on

Curious of the Dala horse? In Nusnäs outside Mora you get a great insight into what it’s all about. This is also the home of watercolour artist Anders Zorn who is considered one of Sweden’s greatest painters. And if you want to see modern versions of some of the most Swedish things there are – at Lycka Form they produce exclusive Leksand throws and Leksand rugs with patterns inspired by the Dalecarlian, colourful traditional costumes!
